"The widely known Weyhill Horse Transport business, founded by Toby Balding and his former jump jockey Owen McNally in the 1960s with headquarters in Andover in Hampshire, has been sold for an undisclosed figure to Lambourn based Rupert Erskine Crum, writes Rodney Masters. According to Erskine Crum, combining the acquisition with his existing Convallis Horse Transport business will make Weyhill the joint second largest horse transport operation in Britain, with a combined fleet of ten boxes.
Balding and McNally sold their company in 1986 to John Gordon, who has run the firm with McNally's wife Joyce but recently announced his intention to retire shortly.
Clients include Richard Hannon, Andrew Balding,
Jonathan Geake (Toby Balding's son-in-law) and a variety of studs.
Erskine Crum said: ``I wanted to expand my business and Weyhill is a company with a very good reputation. I'll be keeping on the staff and they will remain based in Andover with two boxes in Lambourn.'' "
